It's the current chemicals most of us have in our homes that are toxic to our critters, not essential oils. We've been making most of our cleaning products for about three years now. We use vinegar, essential oils like lemon, geranium, lavender and peppermint for everything from disinfectants to mopping floors.
Izzie, our lizard enjoys Purification blend diffused near her cage and Thieves cleaner used for sanitizing the inside of her cage. We remove her before spraying the Thieves Cleaner as it is still very strong as we are cleaning.
Purification: Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia) lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida), and myrtle (Myrtus communis).
Thieves Cleaner: Proprietary suspension of safe surfactants (wetting agents) and Thieves® essential oil (a proprietary blend of 100% pure Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils of clove [Syzygium aromaticum], lemon [Citrus limon], cinnamon bark [Cinnamomum verum], eucalyptus [E. radiata] and rosemary [Rosmarinus officinalis CT cineol].
Interesting side note on the diffusing of Purification... lizards will often times pick up parasites. Izzie stays parasite free and has a calm and wonderful demeanor.
Always remember, animals are far more sensitive to essential oils... a little goes a long way for our little friends.

From Stefany,
ReplyDeleteHi Tara,
"We have a diffuser only about 5 ft from the cage of our beardie. She's happy, healthy and active :-). As for other animals...in general, essential oils shouldn't be used around cats. That is except for Young Living oils. With our move, our cat recently started sneezing. The vet said it's allergies and offered us a prescription. I politely turned it down saying I'd take care of it. I started diffusing lavender in our room (which is where she spends most of her time). Her sneezing has ceased. There's a reason my 14 yr old cat is so healthy (the vets always think she's half her age). Healthy living :-)"
